Numerical study of phase transitions in Potts models.

چکیده
A model is defined that interpolates between integer dimension and integer q-state Potts models. Phase transitions in these models are studied, and in particular the critical value qc where the phase transition changes from second into first order is determined for several dimensions. For (d, qc) the values (2.0;4.05), (2.5;2.68), (3.0;2.21), (3.5;2.15) and (4.0;2.07) are obtained. ∗e-mail: [email protected] †e-mail: [email protected]

The forgotten Potts models
The q = 10 and q = 200 state Potts models coupled to 2d gravity are investigated numerically and shown to have continuous phase transitions, contrary to their behavior on a regular lattice. Critical exponents are extracted and possible critical behavior for general q-state Potts models coupled to gravity is discussed.
متن کاملNumerical Study of Finite Size Scaling for First Order Phase Transitions
I present results of simulations of the q=10 and q=20 2-d Potts models in the transition region. The asymptotic finite size behavior sets in only for extremely large lattices. We learn from this simulation that finite size scaling cannot be used to decide that a transition is first order.
متن کاملMultibondic Cluster Algorithm
Inspired by the multicanonical approach to simulations of rst-order phase transitions we propose for q-state Potts models a combination of cluster updates with reweighting of the bond conngurations in the Fortuin-Kastelein-Swendsen-Wang representation of this model. Numerical tests for the two-dimensional models with q = 7; 10 and 20 show that the autocorrelation times of this algorithm grow wi...

First order phase transitions are easily described in terms of the competition between two phases (see e.g. [1]). Consider for definiteness a temperature driven phase transition between a disordered phase and a q-fold degenerate ordered phase of free energy fd(β) and fo(β). In order to use numerical methods, one needs to know the behavior of statistical averages in a finite volume, close to the...
متن کاملParticle spectrum of the 3-state Potts field theory: a numerical study
The three-state Potts field theory in two dimensions with thermal and magnetic perturbations provides the simplest model of confinement allowing for both mesons and baryons, as well as for an extended phase with deconfined quarks. We study numerically the evolution of the mass spectrum of this model in its whole parameter range, obtaining a pattern of confinement, particle decay and phase trans...
